Rainham councillors joined children at Parkwood Poppets Playgroup for their Christmas celebrations this week.
The Playgroup has received £900 from local councillors to buy much-needed toys and equipment. This included sensory toys and a new slide. Read more...

New skatepark opens in Rainham

Skaters and riders now have a new place to go thanks to a new skate park.
The brand new facility at Cozenton Park, behind Splashes in Rainham, which was designed with the help of young people, includes ramps and rails for skaters of all abilities. Read more...
Meresborough Road play area refurbished

Cllr. Howard Doe and Cllr. David Royle inspect the newly refurbished play area. This small play facility at the bottom of Meresborough Road also serves the Moor Park area of Rainham and the new equipment is designed for pre-school children and there is a seat so that mums can sit and watch their children play on some of the latest equipment available.

On Sunday September 12th, the Riverside Country Park at Rainham was absolutely packed with local people visiting the new ‘Traditional England’ Festival. There was a host of exciting events including falconry displays, pig racing, live bands and even an artificial beach. Also present were a cast of Great English People including Boudicca, Florence Nightingale, Henry VIII and Sir Winston Churchill. Pictured with Winston are Cllr. Howard Doe and Rehman Chishti our local Conservative Member of Parliament and Councillor for Rainham Central.
New Skate Park for Medway

Cllr Howard Doe officially signalled the start of work on Medway’s new Skate Park at Cozenton Park in Rainham on Tuesday (3rd August).

New outdoor gym for over 60s in Rainham

Cllr Howard Doe joined his fellow Rainham councillors to try out Medway’s first outdoor gym specifically designed for people over 60.
The new equipment has been installed at Rainham Rec, just off Stations Road, thanks to your local Conservative Medway Council. The park also has two football pitches, a sports pavilion and basketball court. Read more...
Parkwood Community Centre expansion progressing

Howard and David visited the Parkwood Community Centre to see how the latest improvements were progressing. It was thanks to a grant of £32,000, presented to the Parkwood Centre by your local Conservative Rainham Councillors, along with money from the Big Lottery Fund, that they were able to press ahead with the expansion of the hall, which will help to accommodate the growing needs of the community.

Landscaping in Nares Road and Old Castle Close

David Royle went to inspect the new landscaping at the corner of Nares Road and Old Castle Close, which was installed to prevent motorists parking on the verges and children playing football on the green space. He said:

New equipment at Parkwood Green

New play equipment has been installed at Parkwood Green under a scheme administered by Medway Council. The scheme is intended to improve play facilities for young people aged 8-13 and to make the sites more attractive to girls and with better disabled access.
Welcoming the new improvements, Cllr David Royle said “this play equipment will provide new opportunities for young people in Rainham to enjoy the park and the outdoors.” Read more...
Traffic calming complete on Meresborough road

Local residents in Meresborough Hamlet were concerned about lorries travelling through the area. Thanks to your local Conservative councillors, £80,000 was found to introduce traffic calming measures and a 20mph speed limit.

Medway Council has had new bus shelters installed along Deanwood Drive, which will benefit residents waiting to catch a bus from Rainham. David and Howard inspected the one at Campleshon Road, which provides shelter from the wind and rain.

Sir, Medway is worthy of city status and 2012 would be the ideal time for our community to receive the recognition it so rightly deserves. In fact we have great expectations for 2012 in Medway.

Rainham Councillors present grant to Parkwood Community Centre

Howard and David joined the other councillors from Rainham to present a cheque for £32,000 to Parkwood Community Centre on Thursday (19th November).

Sir, there is no better way to save money than to grow your own fruit and vegetables and it will come as no surprise that the current recession has spurred an interest in allotments; here in Medway they are extremely popular. Allotments are a great way for residents to enjoy the outdoors, to combine leisure and health pursuits and are vital urban greenspaces which need protecting.
Some have speculated that the council intends to re-develop allotment sites, especially the site between Mill Road and Prince Arthur Road. I can reassure residents that we have no plans to do so and that Medway Council’s commitment to the retention of allotments has never been greater. Read more...

Community safety meeting in Parkwood

Local Rainham South councillors, in conjunction with the Police and Rainham councillors, held a successful meeting in Parkwood on community safety. The meeting was very productive in listening to the views of local residents, as well as informing local residents, of the actions the Council and police along with other organisations are taking in making the area safe.

Sir, this month marks the first anniversary of Medway’s children’s mobile library, which is one of the many innovations Medway Council have introduced to make libraries more accessible and amenable for the 21st Century. The way people read books, enjoy literature and access information has changed, so must our libraries to keep up.
They must meet the changing needs of their users. This is why instead of simply being a place to borrow books; our libraries have become community hubs, with Internet access, film, music and game rental. To attract new users, we have clubs, such as the Baby Bounce and Rhyme, which encourages young mothers to join their local library and introduces children to the library facilities. Read more...

Final Council approval was granted on Thursday to host the Modern Pentathlon World Cup, a move that will help Medway to realise its potential as a high-calibre sporting venue for national and international events.
At the meeting, Conservative Councillors approved plans to host the Modern Pentathlon World Cup in 2010. But opposition councillors refused to support the plan, labelling the Pentathlon as an elite sport with little relevance to the people of Medway. Read more...
